Experience an unforgettable 8-day Machame Route Kilimanjaro trek, one of Tanzania’s most scenic routes to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. Enjoy diverse landscapes, beautiful mountain scenery, and a well-paced trekking experience led by an experienced mountain crew.
Route summary
Day 1: Day 1: Machame Gate to Machame Camp
After breakfast, drive from Moshi to Machame Gate. Complete registration and begin your trek through the lush rainforest to Machame Camp.
Day 2: Day 2: Machame Camp to Shira Camp
Trek through the rainforest and into the moorland zone, with beautiful views of Mount Meru and the surrounding landscape.
Day 3: Day 3: Shira Camp to Barranco Camp
Cross the Shira Plateau and trek toward Lava Tower before descending into the spectacular Barranco Valley. This day helps your body acclimatize to higher altitude.
Day 4: Day 4: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
Begin the day by climbing the famous Barranco Wall. Continue across valleys and ridges toward Karanga Camp while enjoying spectacular mountain scenery.
Day 5: Day 5: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
Trek through the alpine desert toward Barafu Camp, the base for the summit attempt. Enjoy an early dinner and prepare for the midnight summit climb.
Day 6: Day 6: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp
Begin the summit attempt around midnight. Trek slowly toward Stella Point and continue to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After celebrating your achievement, descend to Mweka Camp.
Day 7: Day 7: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate
Descend through the lush rainforest to Mweka Gate. Complete the park exit procedures and receive your summit certificates before transferring to your hotel in Moshi.
Day 8: Day 8: Departure
Enjoy breakfast at your hotel before your scheduled airport transfer or onward travel.
